Rojii Sonni was born in a financially struggling family in Hansi, Haryana, India. Her childhood was marked by hardship as she lost her father at a very young age. Despite these challenges, she managed to complete her schooling and finished her twelfth standard when she was only sixteen years old.

Soon after completing her education, she was married at the age of sixteen. Her early marriage brought significant responsibilities, and before the age of twenty she had become the mother of two children. Her marriage was difficult, and the challenges she faced during this period shaped her resilience and determination to eventually create a better life for herself and her children.

Career

In 2012, after separating from her marriage, Rojii moved to Mumbai with her two children to start a new chapter in life. With limited resources and a strong determination to rebuild her future, she began working at a beauty parlor to support her family.

Through dedication and hard work, she gained experience in the field and eventually established her own beauty parlor within a few years. This entrepreneurial step provided financial stability and marked the beginning of her journey toward independence.

After a gap of fourteen years from formal education, Rojii decided to resume her studies once her children grew older. Demonstrating remarkable determination, she enrolled in law school and successfully completed her Bachelor of Laws degree in 2019.

Her passion for helping others led her to actively engage in social work, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic years. She worked with children from underprivileged communities, providing guidance, education, and counseling to support their development.

With simultaneous quality assurance internship at City of Hope Beckman Research Centre, she developed her understanding for global technology transfer for Stem Cell Therapeutics and Good Manufacturing Practices for ALS disease, a progressive neurodegenerative disease effecting voluntary muscles. She contributed to drastically improve the efficiency of test development method for sterilization exposing herself to mechanical lathe and data analyzing tools. Feeling stuck in her learning and to ground her anchor in medical R&D in USA, she joined AstraZeneca. As a tech team leader, with an interdisciplinary team and guidance, she led projects on groundbreaking global combination devices for severe asthma, nasal polyps pioneering novel technologies with first approvals to commercialize in Europe and a Priority Review by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Tespire has been the first and only biologic approved for offering a novel way to treat severe asthma without phenotypic or biomarker limitations by stopping inflammation at its source with results published in The New England Journal.
